The Kiwanis Club of Pascagoula held their annual Taste of Spirits event on September 28th and raised over $8,000.

Over 100 people came to taste a variety of hors do’oeuvres and alcoholic beverages from local vendors and enjoyed a night of networking and live music from The Excelsior Band.

Allison Cook, board member of the Kiwanis Pascagoula chapter, said the event was a great turn out and was able to help schools and kids in Jackson County.

“The proceeds will cover our annual Read Around the World through which we distribute over 800 books to 2nd graders and dictionaries for 3rd graders which is also over 800 dictionaries”, she said. “Remaining proceeds will allow the Club to fulfill this year’s plan of work including a AED for the Moss Point School District Career and Technical Center and the Family Education Center, annual donation to the DREAM Program and restore the Kiwanis Playground at the Pascagoula Soccer Complex”, said Cook.

The Read Around the World project is set to take place some time in February.  Dictionary distribution will start Wednesday.
