Mississippi shoppers will have the chance to cash in on some great deals next weekend! The 2021 Sales Tax Holiday is taking place, Friday, July 30, beginning at 12:01 a.m. and ending Saturday, July 31, at 12:00 midnight.

This “tax-free day” will apply statewide to all consumer purchases of clothing, footwear, and school supplies (including backpacks) with sales prices less than $100 per item. Note that your total transaction can be more than $100 as long as the individual items are less than $100.

Mississippi’s Sale Tax Holiday is a shopping event that many Mississippians look forward to each year, especially as they prepare their children to go back to school.

Students started going back to school this week in Lamar County and will continue to do so over the next few weeks. School supplies and new clothes add up quickly! Eliminating the regular 7% sales tax for families preparing for a new school year is definitely beneficial.

Retailers are anticipating sales to be higher this year, with the additional child income tax credit many families have received, in addition to the tax-free weekend. Remember to try and shop local!

If you’re not preparing for a new school year, take the opportunity to get a head start on holiday shopping, or simply check out many of the discounts and details retailers are offering in addition to the tax-free holiday. You never know what you might find!

Although the famous Amazon Prime Day is over, several “Black Friday in July” sales are still going strong. Throw in some back-to-school deals, plus a tax-free weekend, and shoppers are sure to save money and find the items they need.

If you don’t want to go out in the heat and shop among the crowds, this is a win, win! Shop from the comfort of your home this coming tax-free weekend! Don’t forget that online purchases of eligible items are also tax-free during this weekend, as long as you place your order during the designated days and times.

Happy shopping, Mississippi!
