On Thursday afternoon, City of Jackson officials announced that an arena football team is coming to the capital city.

The Mississippi Raiders, who played the 2021 American Football Alliance (AFI) season in Hattiesburg, will play home games at the Mississippi Coliseum beginning on March 26, 2022.

“This is a celebratory occasion as we are very excited to welcome the Mississippi Raiders to Jackson,” Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba said.  “This is another component that creates a sense of place in our city.”

“We’re proud to be here, we’re proud to be in this great city, and we’re proud to be in this great state of Mississippi,” team owner James Germany said following the mayor’s comments.

The current roster is highlighted by former Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive end Jamal Young and former Buffalo Bills defensive back BT Sanders. Open tryouts will be held on November 7 at 10 a.m. Register by calling (601)544-6693 or by visiting the Raiders’ team website.
